Hetton Park Triathlon Weekend

Saturday: Super Series

At the weekend members of the Beachborough Triathlon club competed in the Hetton Lyons Triathlon. On Saturday it was the Super Series event which was split into heats in the morning and then finals in the afternoon. Dan, Jack and I all competed in this event on a very hot Saturday! The race consisted of 350M swim around the lake, a 7.2 KM bike on a closed road circuit followed by a 1.8 KM run on the track around the lake. The same distance was raced in both the heats and the finals.  On both races I was very happy with my swim as I was able to come out of the water near the front of the pack. However, I need to put in some more work into my transition 1 as this was slow and I lost the advantage I gained in the swim. On my bike I was very happy with how I cycled, I made sure to stay low in my drops to try and stay as aero as possible, as this was a draft legal race, getting in a fast pack is paramount. The run was then just a race to the end which I need to improve, I need to work on getting stronger legs off the bike.

We had a rest between races and made use of the Beachborough Gazebo which was a perfect sun shade, Enzo made himself at home.

The day finished with a mixed relay event which was great fun but I was exhausted at the end.

This was a qualifying event for the UK School Games which is a multi-sport competition for Year 10 and 11 (top 2 girls and boys from each region).

I found out after the races that I will get to represent South Central for Triathlon at the school games which are being held at Loughborough University over 4 days at the start of September. I am very excited but I need to concentrate on my training now that I have finished school for the year.

Sunday: Tristar Triathlon

Sunday was a children’s triathlon with Hannah and Charlotte competing for Beachborough. They raced the same course as the previous day, 350M swim, 7.2 KM bike and a 1.8KM run. The weather was kinder to the athletes on Sunday as the temperature was not as extreme at Saturday. Both girls competed very well and held their own against strong competition from the South East region and Scotland. They swam well, did a strong bike race and then finished very well on the run overtaking a number of competitors. Hannah finished in 6th position just 5 seconds behind Charlotte in 5th. We are looking forward to competing at Eton Dorney on Sunday and seeing a big representation from Beachborough.
